Showering & Hygiene with Chronic illness

Fatigue =/= Very Tired

It can be a sensitive subject but chronic pain and fatigue can make it difficult to shower and keep up on aspects of daily living. A lot of us in the community try to shower as quickly as possible whilst inside the shower. I'd like to offer a different method that causes less fatigue along with other hygiene tips and tricks!

Lather without the shower head running
Why? The longer that your exposed to the heated water the more fatigued you'll get. It's best to only turn on the shower head to rinse.  Once your out of the shower drink some ice cold water and maybe even using a fan to help you both cool down and dry with less effort, then afterwards rest. I've actually used a blow dryer on the cold air setting as well to help with drying if I'm having a bad day.  Use Assistive Tech like Shower Chairs, and elongated shower heads, and grab bars. doesn't matter how old you are,(I'm 21) if it helps then it's worth it!

Use baby wipes or bath wipes
When you can't get in the shower it's important to keep up on hygiene wherever possible. Baby wipes
, bath wipes or even rag washing can do the trick in between.
Don't mind Abled people who say your gross for using this method, sometimes it's dangerous to shower. F*ck other peoples opinions do you hunny.

Baby wipes can be found for $1 a pack at the 99 cents and dollar tree.

Keep dental hygiene products nearby.
If you ever find yourself bedridden, this is essential. Instead of being unable to get to the bathroom and having your teeth yellow up it's best to keep toothpaste, tooth brush, water and a disposable spitting cup nearby in a medical bag, nightstand, cart or whatever feels comfortable to you. On days where you don't have the energy to brush your teeth use mouthwash to swash out your mouth.

Use spray on lotion
I know I've mentioned this before in my beauty short cuts. I wanted to list my favourite spray on moisturizer, it's meant for hair but can also be used for the skin. Having dry skin all the time isn't healthy but for many people with chronic illness applying lotion the old fashioned way can prove to be quite difficult.
