How I got a wheelchair for $15
I’m sad to admit it, but I haven’t been getting better I’ve been getting worse & unlike a younger version of me I was not going to cling on to my previous state of health I was going to change things to become more accommodating. I was tired of trying to get around on a computer chair or lying in bed stagnantly when I couldn't balance what so ever. I decided to get a real wheelchair.
With my frugal state of mind (I feel like frugality is a gnarly ass thing for anyone who can't hold down a job due to health) I’d already come across an app called “Offer up” It’s essentially an online community garage sale. People sell their new and used items on this app and a lot of the prices are ultra low. I scoped out a wheelchair for $15 and it was TOTALLY worth it. My seller was nice, & the wheelchair was a little bit dusty but it is fully functional but argh came without foot rests, but seriously it was dirt cheap. & my wheelchair has added a great amount of new independence s and lowered stress levels; I’m more than happy that I got it.
During my search I also used craigslist and put up an ad saying that I, a Disabled young woman needed a lightly used or new wheelchair for under $40 and woahhhhhh can I tell you how many responds I got? No, no I can't because it was too many. I even got responds months later from my post date.
So definitely if you’re considering getting a wheelchair get one! It's made life so much easier & getting one for cheap isn't as crazy as it sounds. I hope this helps anyone who is
in need of one either part-time or full-time, people often believe a wheelchair is limitation but really it is so much freedom!
